Our CEO Cynthia Delfino-Birdsall recently met with Katie Bhatt, a White Plains High School student and active participant in the YMCA’s Youth and Government Judicial Program. Katie has been selected to represent thousands of students from across New York State at the 2026 Advocacy Day in Albany, where she will meet with elected officials to share student perspectives and priorities.
During their conversation, Cindy and Katie reflected on the YMCA’s deep roots in Westchester, its lasting impact on generations of families, and its continued commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the community. Together, they discussed the importance of empowering young people to lead with purpose and integrity.
“Leaders like Katie remind us why investing in youth matters,” said Delfino-Birdsall. “Her dedication to civic engagement reflects the heart of our Youth and Government program and the responsibility young leaders take on when they speak up for others.”
The YMCA of Central and Northern Westchester serves as a vital community resource, providing child care, youth development programs, Universal Pre-K, and summer camp experiences. Guided by the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility, the Y is committed to helping young people grow into engaged, confident leaders.
“The future of our community is stronger when young voices are heard,” Delfino-Birdsall added. “Katie’s leadership and commitment to service inspire us all.”
The YMCA congratulates Katie Bhatt on this outstanding achievement and looks forward to supporting her advocacy efforts in Albany.
