Youth in Action: Meet Lucy, Francis, and Gabe
At the YMCA of Central & Northern Westchester, we believe in the power of youth to lead, inspire, and make lasting change. That belief is brought to life through our YMCA Youth and Government program—a statewide initiative that empowers middle and high school students to engage in civic participation, leadership, and public speaking.
This year, we’re proud to spotlight Lucy Wright, Francis Fokoue, and Gabe Racaniello—three exceptional juniors at White Plains High School who have been active members of our Youth and Government delegation for the past three years. Throughout their time in the program, Lucy, Francis, and Gabe have developed skills in advocacy, debate, policy-making, and respectful dialogue. More importantly, they’ve embraced the YMCA’s core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
Now, they’re stepping up in a new way—by giving back. The trio is currently leading a fundraising effort to support the NYS YMCA Youth and Government Scholarship Fund, which helps ensure that cost is never a barrier to participation. Their goal is to open the door to this transformative experience for students across New York State, regardless of their financial background.
“We’ve benefited so much from our three years in the program,” the students shared. “Through helping us reach our fundraising goals, you can ensure other middle and high schoolers across New York State can participate in the same incredible experience without being held back by cost.”
We are so proud of Lucy, Francis, and Gabe—not only for their dedication to learning and leadership, but for their commitment to paying it forward.
Please join us in supporting their efforts—and help shape the next generation of changemakers.
“Leaders has shaped me as a person and has shown me my values. I have learned more from each meeting than I have throughout all of high school. Leaders is the highlight of my weeks, and even though I am scared for it to end and to move on, I know I have learned what I needed to.”
