We are proud to celebrate an extraordinary achievement by three inspiring young leaders from the YMCA of Central and Northern Westchester. Congratulations to Francis Fokoue-Nkoutche, Charis Choi, and Nathan Beck on receiving the Westchester County EcoAward 2026 for their innovative and impactful PUREbin Project.
This prestigious recognition highlights their meaningful contributions to recycling, waste reduction, and environmental stewardship across Westchester County. Selected as award recipients for their dedication and forward-thinking approach, these teens exemplify what it means to lead with Responsibility while caring for the world around them.
The PUREbin Project, a youth-led initiative supported by the YMCA and funded through the Youth Climate Action Fund, was created to help reduce pollution in the Bronx River while raising awareness about the importance of protecting our waterways. What began as an idea driven by passion and concern for the environment quickly grew into a powerful community effort—demonstrating the impact young people can have when given the opportunity to lead.
Their work not only addresses critical environmental challenges but also inspires others throughout the community to take action. By combining innovation, teamwork, and a shared commitment to sustainability, Francis, Charis, and Nathan have become role models for their peers and for all of us.
The EcoAwards, held this year at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, celebrate individuals and organizations making a difference in environmental conservation. We are honored to see these remarkable teens recognized for their leadership and dedication.
At the YMCA, we believe in nurturing the potential of every young person. Francis, Charis, and Nathan are shining examples of how youth voices can drive meaningful change and help build a cleaner, healthier future for all.
